If you don't know what Earth Hour is then you are missing out on a fabulous thing! Earth Hour is an annual global event that takes place on the last Saturday of March (25/03/2023), when millions of people turn off their lights for one hour to show their commitment to the environment. It all started in Sydney in 2007 and now more than 190 countries participate.

The purpose of Earth Hour is to raise awareness about climate change and to encourage individuals and businesses to take action to reduce their carbon footprint. This event is a great opportunity for businesses to show their commitment to sustainability and to engage with their customers and employees. Make an event of it and promote it on social media!

No matter the size of the business, there are several ways to get involved in Earth Hour and to make a positive impact on the environment. Here are some ideas:

  1. Turn off the lights

The most obvious way to participate in Earth Hour is to turn off the lights in your business for one hour. This simple act can help to reduce your energy consumption and to raise awareness about the importance of energy conservation.

  1. Promote Earth Hour on social media

Use your social media channels to promote Earth Hour and to encourage your customers and followers to participate. You can share information about the event, post photos and videos of your business turning off the lights, and use hashtags such as #EarthHour and #Connect2Earth to join the conversation.

  1. Organize a sustainability event

Organize a sustainability event to coincide with Earth Hour. This could include a recycling drive, a tree planting event, or a sustainability workshop. Not only will this help to raise awareness about sustainability, but it will also give your employees and customers an opportunity to get involved and to make a positive impact on the environment.

  1. Reduce your energy consumption

Earth Hour is a great opportunity to evaluate your business's energy consumption and to identify ways to reduce it. This could include installing energy-efficient light bulbs, upgrading your HVAC system, or implementing a recycling program.

  1. Partner with other businesses

Partner with other businesses in your community to organize a joint Earth Hour event. This will not only help to amplify your message, but it will also give you an opportunity to collaborate with other like-minded businesses and to share best practices.

In conclusion, Earth Hour is a great opportunity for businesses of all sizes to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and to engage with their customers and employees. By turning off the lights, or doing any of the above you are helping to raise awareness. It's important to remember that it's absolutely the thought that counts in this instance. If you can't get involved with Earth Hour on Earth Hour then do your bit on Friday!

We've had lots of requests this week about how we can support the clients we work with during their Earth Hour's and it's a pleasure to do so! Our office will be taking part on Thursday 23rd March with an hour of darkness and limiting the use of appliances in the office. We look forward to hearing about your Earth Day shenanigans!
